IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo®
June 21-24, New Orleans, LA

From its music to its museums, its rich cultural heritage to its equally rich cuisine, New Orleans is the kind of city where there’s always something to celebrate. And that makes it an excellent place for the Institute of Food Technologists to mark a major milestone: its 75th anniversary. IFT will be celebrating that and more at the 2014 Annual Meeting & Food Expo June 21–24.

IFT AMFE New Orleans

Of course, the Annual Meeting & Food Expo is always a celebration—a celebration of ideas and insight—as well as a destination for cementing longtime friendships and making new professional contacts. That will be as true as ever this year. About 18,000 food industry professionals from more than 100 countries will gather in New Orleans to participate in a wide-ranging Scientific Program and innovation-packed Food Expo trade show at the Morial Convention Center.

In this newsletter—the official preview of the show—you will find more in-depth information on the scientific sessions offered, in addition to some of the new events taking place. Make sure you don’t miss out on experiencing these exciting events firsthand … register today at www.ift.org/ift14.

Notable Speakers
In addition to the plethora of scientific sessions offering the latest information from experts in the field, IFT’s Annual Meeting is known for having notable, world-class speakers addressing broader food science issues. This year, Doug Rauch, former president of Trader Joe’s chain of grocery stores, will share his personal perspective on how to feed the world in ways that are healthful and sustainable in the keynote address on Sunday, June 22. In addition, two high-profile Beacon Lecturers will bring global perspectives to their addresses on issues of importance to the food industry. The Beacon Lecturers are Jane Karuku, President of Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, and Hod Lipson, Cornell University engineering professor. Celebrate 75 Years
IFT was founded in 1939 by a small group of individuals dedicated to the idea that communication among food scientists and technologists was essential to the progress of the profession. The 2014 IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo will feature some brand new exhibits and events linked to the celebration of IFT’s 75th anniversary that you will not want to miss.

On the Expo Floor
More than 1,000 ingredient, equipment, processing, and packaging suppliers from around the world will be on hand at this year’s Food Expo. The show floor will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 22; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, June 23; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24. Here’s a look at some of the highlights of this year’s Expo.

Scientific & Education Programming
Over the course of three days, hundreds of experts will share their insights in more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific sessions on topics ranging from protein-based nanostructures to product formulation in a post trans fat world. To further enrich the Scientific Program educational options, a Hot Topics Workgroup spent several months identifying issues of importance, and built sessions around them. Here’s a look at the 2014 Hot Topic sessions:

Network & Socialize
From celebrations, networking functions, volunteer activities, and the industry’s leading food science-specific recruiting events, you’ll find virtually unlimited opportunities to connect with colleagues while having a great time.

I’m the communications coordinator for the New Orleans CVB. I’m gathering fun and interesting facts about conventions that take place here. If you have any to send about your convention, I’d greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks so much,
